We're back! Labour sisters from 44 countries in attendance at UNCSW61.

By: Canadian Trade Union Delegates - Jan Simpson #CUPW, Shirley Friesen #PIPSC, Catina Sicoli #SIU, Patty Coates #OFL

This morning we kicked off at 8am to prep for our sit down meeting with Minister of Labour Pattie Hajdu; we discussed: Pay Equity, Work-integrared learning, Good quality jobs, and workplaces free from harassment and sexual violence.  Of course we could not leave without emphasizing the need to tie them all in with the need for a universal childcare program; Minister Hajdu agreed and stated" good social policy equals good fiscal/economic plocy"

The minister had her talking points in order, but we all know concrete actions are what are required not task forces and "meaningful consultation." Sisters reminded her of this and admonished the government for delaying the implementation of real legislative changes now, not in 2018.

The UN sessions in the afternoon were standing room only.  This year's theme is "Women's Economic Empowerment In The Changing World Of Work "

Our Sisters here were gracious to femtor us newbies/first-time attendees. It was an amazing first day filled with new experiences, meeting women from many countries sharing our stories.

We are looking forward to the days to come where we continue to share with sisters the road to real economic justice for women.

In Solidarity and sisterhood,
