The panel : A GENDER-EQUAL FUTURE FOR FINANCIAL FREEDOM, was inspiring and educational as the Nordic Council of Ministers, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, shared their learnings, lessons and solutions to create a gender-equal future for financial freedom, in the Nordic countries.

As Canadians, we constantly look to the Nordic labour markets for lessons, as they are among the most gender-equal in the world. However, as we learned in the panel: persistent challenges, the gender pay gap, sexual harassment at work, and the un-equal distribution of care work, remind us that the job is not yet done for women in the Nordic countries.

What was most impactful to hear, were the lessons learned in the Nordic nations, including: that parental leave must be equally distributed by the parents, that fathers have to take a larger role in care, gender-based violence needs to be eliminated, and job evaluations (they are mandatory in the Nordic countries) need to have an intersectional lense.

We walked away inspired and motivated, with the lessons learned, to lobby for these changes in Canada, so that we can create a gender-equal future for women!
